Jennifer Strunge was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where she still resides with her two fat ctats, high up on a hill. Taught to sew by her mama when she was just a little girl, Jennifer’s love of textiles runs deep. In childhood she could often be found alone in a corner dressing up clothespins or designing family trees for her stuffed animal collection. During her senior year at the Maryland Institute College of Art Jennifer began making quilts with eyes, and soon giant-soft sculptural creatures from found blankets and bedding. Shortly after graduating in 2004, Jennifer saw the joy that her monsters inspired and began creating her unique Cotton Monster line. When not locked in her attic studio stuffing and sewing, she works for Black Cherry Puppet Theater brining art and puppetry programs to schools and recreation centers throughout the city. Jennifer also loves drawing, printmaking, cooking, walking through the forest and riding her bicycle. Though content in being a one-woman sweatshop in her little house, one day Jennifer begin her own circus and travel the world.
